Executive Producer
Bamyan Media is seeking an experienced executive TV producer who can manage the development, sale, and co-production of their international non-scripted reality TV series about social entrepreneurs for developing countries.
The ideal candidate has extensive television series production experience (preferably non-scripted), including effectively pitching and selling reality television series to international buyers. Also required is experience with securing financing, managing cross-cultural productions, ensuring successful production and post operations, and maintaining innovations to formats.
Bamyan Media is a small, US-based social enterprise start-up that works primarily in developing countries. Our educational mission is to produce locally relevant and highly popular television programs that inspire marginalized people in the developing world to lead change and create prosperity in their community through the creation of social enterprises. Having piloted and produced an immensely popular 13-part series in Afghanistan, we are now seeking to replicate our innovative model in other developing countries.
Start-date and location are flexible. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities include the following:
- Launch, grow and manage productions in international media markets, mostly in developing countries
- Drive the overall development, packaging and selling of the series; manage the branding and ongoing innovations to format bible & selling materials, including pitches, treatments, reels etc.
- Work with legal assistance to license series and negotiate deals
- Oversee directing and training of production crews
- Ensure that Bamyan’s social mission and educational content is being effectively adapted and integrated into series to create maximum social impact
- Work with team to learn about social entrepreneurship, start-ups, Small & Medium Enterprises, financing, resources and support for business creation etc. and incorporate messaging into entertaining format
- Manage the budgeting, cost control, reporting and effective production hiring and coordination of crews on the ground; depending on local capacity, potentially oversee and/or serve as an on-the-ground co-producer on select projects; may be called upon to direct, cast, edit, and guide camera work as needed
Additional Duties
- Develop and maintain relationships with network buyers, distributors, broadcasters, local production companies, and creative consultants
- Attend showcases and markets (MIPCOM, NAPTE…); work with distributor(s) to increase sales
- Work closely with research and content advisors to track trends and incorporate educational research findings
- Generate ideas for new episodes, “challenges,” and show concepts
The successful applicant will have:
- 5+ years experience in hands-on television development and series production, preferably non-scripted
- Experience shepherding non-scripted programming from concept to sale to production
- Extensive and detailed knowledge of all facets of broadcast operations, including physical production, technical operations, scheduling, budgeting, post-production, management, scripting, editing and directing.
- Proven ability as a producer and team leader that provides clear managerial oversight
- Ability to identify unique ideas and talent and translate them into successful, locally-relevant programming
- A willingness to regularly travel between the US and other developing countries and work in extremely challenging conditions around the world
- Strong knowledge of, and relationships with key players in the TV industry, including agents, production companies, producers, talent, international networks and broadcasters, etc. that can be leveraged to generate opportunities
- Knowledge of post-production process including selecting or approving editors, final cuts and viewing dailies, planning promotional campaigns

- An ability to grasp issues quickly and handle the complexities of TV rights, IP, talent, possible open-source strategy and network needs
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, a strong listener, and an engaging storyteller
- Sense of humor, entrepreneurial spirit, indefatigable determination, and the ability to navigate unpredictable situations with patience and grace always a bonus
- A willingness to work on a small, diverse, start-up team and dare to innovate within a traditional industry
Education Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of work experience
